5TH STREET CORRIDOR

5TH STREET CORRIDOR

Focusing on a 0.6 mile stretch of State Highway LA 466 (5th Street) in Gretna, Louisiana, this project will transform 5th Street into a more vibrant main street of local and regional significance. The location and condition of existing commercial parking, sidewalks, ADA access compliance, drainage, utilities, and lighting levels were assessed. Dana Brown & Associates also analyzed traffic patterns and volumes, varying rights-of-way along the corridor, and potential for providing bike paths identified in the Jefferson Parish Bicycle Master Plan. To facilitate and encourage redevelopment of the 5th Street commercial properties, street improvements are needed. DBA designed wider sidewalks, bioswales, street trees, pedestrian-scale lighting, signage, and bicycle lanes. Alternative concepts for redesign of the corridor were developed and presented at public workshops. The resulting final plan was further developed and documented in a Stage 0 Feasibility Study that will be used to acquire funding for implementation.
