TRI-CENTENNIAL PLACE PARKING LOT
TRI-CENTENNIAL PLACE PARKING LOT
Tri-Centennial Place Parking Lot is located behind the New Orleans Museum of Art in New Orleans City Park. Dana Brown & Associates proposed a sustainable approach to stormwater management of the vast parking lot in contrast to the traditional catch basins and pipes proposed by the project engineer. It became the first State-funded project involving green infrastructure and resulted in new standard details and specifications within the Department of Transportation and Development. The parking lot bioretention cell serves as a visual amenity while being highly functional in detaining, infiltrating, filtering runoff and reducing localized flooding and water pollution. An unexpected benefit of the project is that concentrating all the plantings in one large, central area of the lot resulted in vastly improved maneuverability for the many semi-trailer trucks and busses that use this parking lot. DBA has adopted the bioretention cell and organizes volunteers to conduct maintenance.
