URBAN WATER PLAN

URBAN WATER PLAN

The Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan addresses stormwater management in the large urban area encompassing the East Bank of Orleans Parish west of the Industrial Canal, New Orleans East, East Bank of Jefferson Parish, and St. Bernard Parish. All these areas experienced severe damage from Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, but also regularly suffer localized flooding from rain events. Greater New Orleans, Inc. funded a comprehensive look at water in the region, including flooding caused by rainfall, soil subsidence caused by pumping of stormwater and groundwater, and runoff impacts to water quality. Dana Brown & Associates served as a key subconsultant analyzing stormwater modeling data and proposing conceptually designed green infrastructure solutions. DBA developed a vocabulary of canal re-naturalization and restoration design concepts, several pilot project designs, the Ecological Services Metrics report and video, and comprehensive information on maintenance of green infrastructure.
